We recognize that a lot of information was presented during the “treatment plan” session with the orthodontist. The goals of this session were to provide you with the information needed to make an informed decision regarding orthodontic treatment. For your convenience and reference, we have listed some of the main points covered during the session. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

TREATMENT TIME ESTIMATE

The treatment time estimate given was based on keeping all scheduled appointments and having no broken brackets or appliances. Treatment time can be delayed if either of these are experienced.

SCHEDULING

We try to schedule most appointments after school, with the following exceptions:

Long Appointments - this includes the placement and removal of braces and appliances
Repairs
Special Procedures

BROKEN BRACKETS

Understanding that broken brackets generally only occur for one of the following two reasons will help you avoid this problem that can lengthen your treatment time.

Eating foods from the “Foods to Avoid” list
Not cutting foods into small enough pieces

ORAL HYGIENE

It is a common misconception that braces cause tooth decay and staining. The truth is that these problems result from poor oral hygiene. It is important to adopt the good habits that we discussed regarding brushing and flossing to ensure that staining and cavities do not occur.

PROBLEMS

Your comfort is very important to us and we will give you a list of home solutions to the common complaints of orthodontic treatment. However, if these solutions do not work for you, please call the office and we will let you know if you need to seen before your next scheduled appointment.

FEES

Fees quoted are for services provided by this office only. Separate fees will be incurred for procedures performed by your dentist or other specialists. Changes in treatment due to unexpected circumstances, non-compliance, missed appointments or appliance wear may also incur additional charges.
