-WHAT IF I MOVE DURING TREATMENT?-
[Printer-Friendly PDF Version]

Changing orthodontists during treatment requires additional planning. We will help you make the transition go as smoothly as possible. We can give you a recommendation for an orthodontist in the town or city to which you are moving. Sometimes we will personally know the person we recommend, but not always.

WILL MY TREATMENT TIME BE PROLONGED?

The estimated treatment time will generally take longer if you change orthodontists during active treatment. Treatment time is prolonged because the new orthodontist must do a complete evaluation with new models and x-rays. Also, the new orthodontist must become familiar with a patient’s response to treatment.

WILL THE OVERALL TREATMENT COSTS CHANGE?

Treatment costs will generally increase if a move is made during treatment. This is due to the additional cost of updating the treatment plan, new records, and the increased length in treatment time. Our office will calculate the treatment fee to date and make arrangements for payment of any remaining fee balance. In-progress records will need to be taken to help in our evaluation of care and to help the new orthodontist in continuing your treatment.

There will be a transfer fee of $75.00 to cover the additional expense of obtaining and duplicating the diagnostic records. You may take these records with you or we can mail them to your new orthodontist for you. The transfer fee is due before the transfer.

WHAT SHOULD I DO AFTER WE MAKE THE MOVE?

Make contact with your new orthodontist as soon as possible in order to avoid any additional delays in your treatment. When you check in with your new orthodontist, decide whether or not you are happy with the referral. If you would like to contact a second office, please call us as we may be able to refer you to a second office. We would rather not send your records and treatment summary until you are satisfied with a new orthodontist. Once an acceptable office has been found, the orthodontist will request a transfer report from our office and we will respond as quickly as possible.
